Hey everyone! Today we take a look at the Area Denial Node. In times of Escalation and growing Apocalypse popularity this little gem from the past could help us against all those big and nasty Knights or Lord of Skulls!
The Datasheet for the Node was released in the UK WD 336 (US 335 / German 144). The french version is still available on games-workshop.com:

Translated it's:
Unit: 1 Area Denial Node Points: 175
Type: Super Heavy Vehicle (immobile)
Structure Points: 2
Weapons + Wargear: twin-linked Railguns
Weapons Range S AP Notes
Railgun 180" 10 1 Heavy 1
(Solid shot)
Railgun 72" 6 4 Heavy 1, 5" Explosive
(submunition)
Armour
BS Front Side Rear
3 12 12 12
Submunition: Instead of a single shot, the Aera Denial Node can fire it's submunition. You can reroll failed wounds for models under the explosive template
Coordinated Shooting: Area Denial Nodes are connected to eachother and can combine their shots to increase the effect. Declare that you will shoot with two or more Area Denial Nodes a Coordinated Shooting before announcing the hit-rolls and select a target. Only Solid shots can be made. Now make your hit-rolls. If two or more Area Denial Nodes score a hit then those Area Denial Nodes get the special rule "Titan Killer".
A quick side note: With the new Apocalypse book, the structure points were tripled with an unchanged pointcost. This is because of the new sytem damage is calculated. Based on this I would play it with 6 structure points.
In my opinion, they add a lot of value to apocalypse games. If you don't want to use a Shadowsword or buy Forge World models, this is the way to go.
I don't know how your gaming group handles older rules or datasheets like thisone, but it's no problem in mine. Hopefully yours is also tolerant.
I found a nice emplacement on ebay, I think i will order 2-3 of it sometime and build my Area Denial Nodes.
Klick
What do you think, is it worth the point cost? Would you use it? If not, why? If yes, why?
