But as the mission begins and the death count rises, Kais quickly learns that the brutal reality of battle is a far cry from the training grounds of his home world.
In the jungles of the Dolorosa Coil, a coalition of alien tau and human deserters have waged war upon the Imperium for countless years. When the world of Quadravidia comes under attack by the insidious tau, only one man can defeat the aliens and save the planet in the Emperor’s name: the legendary Hero of the Imperium, Commissar Ciaphas Cain. When the aliens call for a ceasefire, Cain expects the worst, and his fears are answered in the form of the dread menace of the tyranids. As a hive fleet approaches Quadravidia, Cain must try to forge an alliance between the Imperium and the tau – but can he truly trust the inscrutable xenos?

The hunt has begun. On the gue’la world of Halfus, Shas’vre Fal’shia Bas’reh Valel pilots his Riptide battlesuit against the might of an Adeptus Mechanicus armoured division. With over fifty battle tanks of the Imperium seeking his destruction, the odds are not in Vre’Valel’s favour. On the sept of Fi’draah, a tau water caste ambassador is sent deep into the jungles of the mysterious Dolorosa Coil on a vital mission. Jhi’kaara, pathfinder of the tau fire caste, reflects upon the events and battles that have shaped her life and given her the meaning of her name: broken mirror.
The XV104 Riptide is the pinnacle of the Earth caste's battlesuit development. It stands twice as tall as the XV8 Crisis suit, but its movements are more like those of its smaller cousins than the mechanical stiffness displayed by Imperial walkers with their crude servo-motors. A fearsome weapon of war, it can stand alonge against almost anything the enemies of the Tau Empire have in their arsenal.
Tactica: XV104 Riptides explores the use and tactics of the Riptide in games of Warhammer 40,000. Discover the tips and tricks for getting the most out of this impressive war machine, and how to bring ruin to the foes of the Tau Empire, as well as its weaknesses and how to defeat it.
Tau combat doctrine places great emphasis on defeating enemy forces using superior firepower and technological advantage. At the heart of this method of warfare are their battlesuits; giant mechanical suits that are armed with the most powerful Tau weaponry. Foremost among these are the terrifying XV104 Riptide and XV88 Broadside battlesuits, capable of demolishing enemy battle lines and armour in a blaze of particle beams and howling sub-munitions.
The Tau Firebase Support Cadre Dataslate presents the rules for fielding this advanced formation in your games of Warhammer 40,000, the cadre containing the impressive XV104 Riptide supported by six Broadside battlesuits, a terrifying prospect for any opponent to face!
Based on advanced Tau plasma technology the burst cannon is a brutally efficient support weapon with an impressive rate of fire. The weapon is ideal for dealing with massed formations, its rotary barrels allowing it to keep up a steady stream of fire scything into the foe.
The Tau are masters of advanced technologies and weapons system, like their fearsome rail technology that can accelerate rounds to supersonic speeds. Against attacks from a rail weapon even the heaviest armours are little protection, the shots punching through plasteel and ferrocrete with equal ease.
